Founded by Pharmacist Bong-jae Kim, a former senior researcher at the Korean FDA and at pharmaceutical and cosmetics companies, the brand grew out of his exposure to dermatological cosmetics in French pharmacies and hospitals during his studies there in the early 2000s. In 2003, he and his team began researching safe, effective skincare that supports healthy living through healthy skin. The name combines "Doctor" and "Esthétique" (beauty treatment).

Its first success was the AC line (AC Solution, A2 Solution), created with dermatology experts to help teens struggling with acne. That success led to expanded clinical research and wide recognition from dermatologists and medical institutions.
